Twofold | Zweimalig
The Markgrafentheater in Erlangen celebrates its 300th anniversary on 30 May 2019 as part of the International Figure Theatre Festival. To celebrate, the Cultural Office of the City of Erlangen and the Institute for Theatre and Media Studies have invited four female artists to respond to records of the opening evening in May 1719. The starting point for Eva Meyer-Keller’s contribution is the list of props, revealing that 3 ships, 1 ox , 2 elephants, 1 lion, 1 tiger, 1 triumphal chariot, 6 waves and one fountain featured on stage that evening. Together with students, Eva Meyer-Keller has brought back props from that time with everyday objects from today - a fire extinguisher, a spotlight or a screwdriver. Twofold | Twice is a video work, in which the objects are manipulated with fine threads in a shadow play, so that the spectator can hardly notice how a fire extinguisher is transformed into a tiger and then into a triumphal chariot. A game of associations unfolds in front of the audience, about theatre as a place of transformation.
