A Kind of Magic
It's a Kind of Magic is a performance by Uta Eisenreich, Eva Meyer-Keller and Alexandra Bachzetsis which examines the 95 percent of the world that humans are only capable of perceiving subconsciously - if at all. The realness of reality is taken apart and put to the test. Inexplicable phenomena are examined, techniques tried out and the artists throw themselves wholeheartedly into experiencing and exposing themselves to the unexpectedly transformative powers of these scientific and rational anomalies.
The artists asked different people about inexplicable stories and half-informed knowledge and try to pin down the continuously elusive reality to a factual foundation. During this process the statements and actions entangle themselves in an increasingly disorientating labyrinth.
It's a Kind of Magic is a revue, presenting and paraphrasing this research in the form of demonstrations, experiments and quotations. The piece is structured in six sections with titles taken from the visible spectrum as it emerges out of infrared and proceeds through, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple to disappear again in ultraviolet. Each section starts with a song referring to the colour and then examines an aspect of the research undertaken. The red section looked at electromagnetic and physical waves, the purple section out-of-body experiences. Other sections looked at fortune telling and the structure of atomic models.
